There are a number of pieces of legislation proposed by the UK Government which are designed to enable a successful and seamless EU Exit for Scotland and the whole of the UK.
Important Brexit legislation will deal with issues like immigration, customs, trade, taxation, fisheries and agriculture.
The European Union (Withdrawal) Bill is designed to ensure that the UK exits the EU with maximum certainty, continuity and control.
The Withdrawal Agreement and Implementation Bill will give legal standing to separation from the EU.
Following agreement by both Houses on the text, the European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill received Royal Assent on 16 March. The Bill is now an Act of Parliament (law).
The Customs Bill sets out the government’s plans to legislate for the standalone customs, VAT and excise regimes the UK will need once it leaves the EU.
Leaving the EU means the UK will need to create a new trade policy framework for the UK. This is the Trade Bill. Information on the Taxation (Cross-border Trade) Bill is also available. The UK Government also helps companies export around the world through the GREAT campaign.
