Scottish businesses could boost their exports as the UK Government’s Aviation Strategy is taken forward, thanks to more routes to more destinations and increasing the capacity for freight. Below are outline plans for how Prestwick and Heathrow airports could improve Scotland’s economy and route network.
The Heathrow expansion project could contribute an estimated £74 billion benefit to passengers and the wider UK economy over 60 years and would deliver at least six more domestic UK flight routes, some of which could be in Scotland.
The Department for Transport will work with the Scottish Government to investigate Glasgow Prestwick Airport as a potential site for a logistics hub to support the building of a potential third runway. We will also look to introduce a significant, long term marketing campaign at Heathrow to promote all that Scotland has to offer.
