Through the Aberdeen City Region Deal, the UK Government is working together with the Scottish Government, Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council, Opportunity North East, partners and the private sector to make Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire even better places to live, work and visit.
City Region Deals are agreements between the UK Government, Scottish Government, local authorities and other partners to invest in cities and regions.
The UK and Scottish Governments will invest £250 million in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. The money is being used to attract more businesses, good quality jobs, specialist skills and visitors to the region. This will deliver a boost to local economies and improve public services.
The Oil and Gas Technology Centre
The OGTC, a key project of the City Region Deal, is developing world-leading technology to help ensure the oil and gas sector in Scotland is as safe, efficient and productive as possible. As well as supporting companies in the North Sea, OGTC experts are sharing best practice with specialists from around the globe. This will help to secure Aberdeen’s place as a centre of excellence for oil and gas research and development.
The Aberdeen Harbour expansion
The Aberdeen Harbour expansion will transform the existing port into the largest of its kind in Scotland. This will potentially bring thousands of jobs and £1 billion of additional investment from businesses to the region. A bigger port will mean bigger ships, including cruise liners with thousands of passengers. This will result in more visitors to the region and generate more money for the local economy.
City Region Deals invest in projects that drive regional economic growth and create jobs. The UK Government have agreed a deal or are in discussions about a deal with each of Scotland’s cities and surrounding regions, including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, and Inverness and the Highlands.
